A little while back we announced that we were going to be starting a book club to read only independently published books, and we're happy to announce that the title we'll be reading in July, as voted for by you guys is The Clocks in this House All Tell Different Times by Xan Brooks (published by the wonderful Salt publishing).
Synopsis (from the Salt website):
Summer 1923: the modern world. Orphaned Lucy Marsh climbs into the back of an old army truck and is whisked off to the woods north of London – a land haunted by the past, where lost souls and monsters conceal themselves in the trees.
In a sunlit clearing she meets the ‘funny men’, a quartet of disfigured ex-soldiers named after Dorothy’s companions in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Here are the loved and the damaged, dark forests and darker histories, and the ever-present risk of discovery and violent retribution. Xan Brooks’ stunning debut is heartbreaking, disturbing and redemptive.
This sounds like it's going to be a great book club book! You can buy the book from the Salt website (by clicking on the book title above) or get it from your local bookshop, library, Wordery (affiliate link) or wherever you want and then hop over and join our forum (free) and post your thoughts in the July Book Club thread! There will be a dedicated chat on the last Sunday of July (Sunday 30th) so if you post about it before then please try to keep your posts fairly spoiler free in case people haven't finished yet!
We'll also be using #ninjabookclub on social media so please join in the conversation over there!
