Seren Books: Our First Indie Love (Indie Extravaganza Day 18)

I'm afraid today's post title isn't exactly true. Seren weren't the first indie I personally fell in love with, but for box purposes they definitely were the first! Today's prize is something a bit special too, read on for details!

Seren is Wales’ leading independent literary publisher, specialising in English-language writing from Wales. Many of our books are shortlisted for - and win - major literary prizes across the UK and America. Our aim is not simply to reflect what is going on in the culture in which we publish, but to drive that culture forward, to engage with the world, and to bring Welsh literature, art and politics before a wider audience. At the heart of our list is a good story told well or an idea or history presented interestingly or provocatively. We’re international in authorship and readership, though our roots remain here in Wales, where we prove that writers from a small country with an intricate culture have a worldwide relevance.

Since its beginnings in 1981, Seren has developed into one of the most interesting publishing houses in Britain. Based in Bridgend, Seren continues to nurture and publish new talent whose quality is recognised around the world.

We publish Poetry, Fiction, Biography, Criticism, Art, Photography and much else beside. Authors include Owen Sheers, Costa Poetry Prizewinner Jonathan Edwards, Carol Rumens, Jonathan Tulloch, Jerwood Fiction Uncovered Award winner Jo Mazelis, Katrina Naomi, Carolyn Jess-Cooke and naturalist Iolo Williams

As you may know here at Ninja Book Box we're massive fans of Seren and particularly of Star-Shot by Mary-Ann Constantine, the book that we chose for our first ever book box. After that box we also published a post about some amazing looking books from their back catalogue that we love the look of, and actually one of them is our October choice for Ninja Book Club, so if you do want to grab a copy of Masque by Bethany W Pope, a gothic retelling of The Phantom of the Opera, we'd love to have you join us!

If you haven't got tickets for our raffle yet and the amazing work carried out by Give a Book hasn't tempted you enough yet you will really want to get some once we announce the amazing prize that Seren have donated. Drumroll please...

The winner of our prize bundle number 3 will get, as part of their bundle, this phenomenal 10 book box set of Seren's New Stories from the Mabinogion. In case you're unfamiliar, the Mabinogion is Celtic myths, so if you're at all into retellings, folklore/fairytale type stuff or just brilliant, beautiful books then you definitely want to get yourself some raffle tickets. Do not miss out on the chance to win this beautiful box set (along with so many other wonderful things).
